3.6: Creative Sourcing from Other Resources
The strength of a look can often lie, not just on how the clothing is put together from the rail, but in the quality of clothing that you’ve been able to hunt down in the first place.
It’s the stylist’s job to hunt for the most amazing clothing items that really add impact and bring the photo shoot to life. So – you’ll need to be a magpie, hunting for unusual and highly creative clothing items that inspire, and this may mean thinking differently about alternative means to source the extraordinary.
Costume or theatrical hire for one-off pieces of inspiration, antique or vintage items or pieces, swathes of beautiful fabric or pieces of cultural inheritance can all be used to work with your theme or adapted to work with as props of styling ‘extras’.
